Think of immunity as your bank account. We need to deposit more, withdraw less, and just say no to loans and lines of credit. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies when it comes to immunity. Lots of what we do to defeat our immune system, is just our own innocence and ignorance. But in fairness to us, what did we really learn about immunity in school? Certainly not practical inexpensive ways we can build it up, nor how to maximize our potential. There are literally hundreds of proven measures we can take to re-construct our Immune Systems. Knowing what those measures are, and knowing if they are actually effective is where I come in. In thirty years of studying Holistic, Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Western medicine, I have gathered quite a treasure trove of (vast collection of) Immune System enhancers. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MY COACHING
The challenge, when there are so many valuable strategy options available, is where to start. The simple part, which we work on first in my coaching, is the 'low hanging fruit'. Easy peasy; the path of least resistance. From my vast list of hacks, we choose to eliminate what you wouldn’t even miss if it was gone. The stuff you don’t even care about keeping in your life. The items and practices that never occurred to you, that they were detrimental to your immunity. Then we determine what to tackle on the next layer… and the next. By the time you get to the stuff you do not want to give up – the more challenging stuff; you will be emboldened by your success and momentum. At that point we will consider the cost and benefit of items on the next level, and choose challenges that feel right; again, simple is the best tactical strategy. I see that with my clients all the time; they gain the confidence to push on and achieve optimum health and build an impenetrable immune shield, if they just take one bite at a time. We calculate the cost and benefit of your daily actions; in money, energy, time, emotional, and physical costs. 'Low hanging fruit' usually is zero cost, 100% benefit; that why we aim at it first.
BALANCE IS THE KEY
In Chinese Medicine especially, the primary concern is maintaining a state of balance in our body, and in relationship to the outside environment. Once you have achieved this, your resistance to illness will be sufficient to keep you from contracting a cold or flu virus, or other dreaded afflictions.
We are ALL exposed to viruses ALL the time, and mostly the people who get sick have been under a lot of stress, are over-fatigued, have allergies, or are out of balance.
We hear about so many people catching the flu or testing positive for a virus – but in reality it is only a portion of those exposed to a virus that actually get sick.
WHY DO WE GET SICK?
According to Chinese medicine’s teachings, our bodies get sick when we are in a weakened state. It is only when our immune systems have been weakened and our bodies are out of balance that we are vulnerable to sickness.
TERRAIN THEORY VS GERM THEORY
My coaching is based on Terrain Theory.
The concept of building our immune systems through nutrition and lifestyle, exercise etc. A little like taking responsibility for yourself; being the master of your domain. With balance, a healthy terrain can handle what is thrown its way pathogen-wise. Natural holistic medicine, homeopathic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and Ayurvedic medicine are all based on terrain theory. It was western medicine that came along and upset the way things have always been done, by using a machine gun approach to wiping out everything; disrespecting the good.
Identify and destroy anything deemed as a foreign invader, as it is directly responsible for causing disease. If you truly want to get well, you need to kill whatever germ you 'think' made you sick, and do whatever possible to make “sure” that you never allow a microbe to enter your body in the first place.
